Are Tombow Dual Brush Pens Permanent?

You have just found out about these awesome beginner brush lettering tools and now you are wondering are Tombow dual brush pens permanent.

Well, that is what I am going to be talking about and answering today.

When getting my first Tombow dual brush pens I myself had the same questions and you might find that it is quite simple to answer.

Let me just give you a brief answer and then you’ll be on your way.

Tombow Dual Brush Pens are not permanent. One of the main reasons is because they are water-based markers. Not alcohol-based but water-based leading it for it to not be permanent.

Now after explaining that you might have some other questions. Here is just a brief summary of what we are going to be talking about today:

  • What Are Tombow Dual Brush Pens
  • Most Likely To Be Used For
  • Lettering with A permanent Marker
  • How to use brush pens since they are water-based
  • Final Thoughts

What Are Tombow Dual Brush Pens

Anyway if you just clicked on this lettering tutorial and for some reason don’t understand what are Tombow dual brush pens that is what I am going to be explaining in this section.

To be honest I would expect you to already know what this is but of course I am just going to be giving you this little explanation.

Tombow Dual Brush Pens are basically a water-based marker with brush and bullet nib. This is commonly used for watercolor and brush lettering.

On from that if you specifically want to learn how to do brush lettering with a Tombow dual brush pen click here.

But anyway Tombow dual brush pens are great brush pens for line work and modern calligraphy (which is what I do).

There is another pen that is very similar to the Tombow dual brush pen witch is called the Tombow Fudenosuke. It has a smaller nib but is great for beginners when it comes to lettering.

We must move on…

Most Likely To Be Used For

In this section of the article I am just going to be explaining what these pens are mostly known for or used for. With this, I am also going to be giving out some links that would be able to help you out.

BRUSH LETTERING

Brush lettering is just a form of modern calligraphy, the art of illustrating letters. I have done many tutorials on brush lettering. I find this art form very inspiring and great for newbies.

Check out my tutorial here.

WATERCOLOR

I have seen many people use these brush pens for watercolor techniques or water brush lettering. It is very easy to do watercolor brush pens since they are water-based.

I have also done these two tutorials.

I am always updating my list if I ever find some new techniques.

Lettering With Permanent Marker

My guess is when you wondering if your Tombow brush pen was permanent you wanted to permanently letter on an object.

So here is a short step by step tutorial to just do that.

There are two ways that I am going to be talking about.

One is doing faux calligraphy with a permanent marker.

Or doing calligraphy with a sharpie.

I have already done full in-depth tutorials if you want to check them out.

FAUX CALLIGRAPHY

STEP 1: Write down the word how you would with regular calligraphy (basic strokes in mind) onto your object.

STEP 2: After doing that I recommend drawing a line on the inside of your letters on all of your downstrokes. If you don’t know all of the terms that I am using I recommend checking out the faux calligraphy tutorial.

STEP 3: Either fill in the space where your downstrokes are, leave it how it is, or do a cool looking design in it.

CALLIGRAPHY WITH SHARPIE

I feel you would get a benefit if you just check out my tutorial that I already have done all about it.

But in the tutorial, I just talk about holding the sharpie ina certain way (very similar to doing calligraphy with Crayola markers) so that you can get a difference in line weight.

Watercolor Techniques With Brush Pens

So now that you have found out that these pens are water-based let us take advantage of that. I already have done a full tutorial on a lot of different water techniques that you could check out here. But I am only going to be talking about one today.

I am going to teach you how you could blend brush pens with water.

First, put down the different colors that you are going to want to blend.

After that get your water and brush out so that we can start.

Witha little of bit water go over the markers and you will start to see that the ink will loosen up and start blending and spreading across the page.

Now Your done awesome right.

Final Thoughts
