Can I Learn Calligraphy Online
You are wanting to start doing calligraphy but have no idea where to start.
Then you are wondering can I learn Calligraphy Online.
If you don’t already know you can find thousands of courses and even more articles online about so many different topics or hobbies.
So couldn’t you learn calligraphy online?
Well, I will be explaining everything in this article but if you are in a hurry here is the short and sweet answer.
Yes, you can totally learn calligraphy online. You can of course find thousands of course s and practice sheets to get started, but being self-taught online can be a little bit overwhelming. Again, totally possible to be able to just learn calligraphy online.
Like I have stated above it can be overwhelming looking through all of these different resources so here is why I made this article.
This is a summary of what we are going to be learning today:
- Is It Easy To Learn Online
- How To Find Free Resources
- Building Relations With Outerh calligraphers

Is It Easy To Learn Online
So is it going to be easy?
Well depending on what you are comparing it to.
For example, learning calligraphy online might be a bit harder than learning calligraphy with an instructor that you can meet with once a week.
Again I have learned from online resources like different articles and youtube, which means I am self-taught.
When learning calligraphy if you want to master it a little bit easier you could say, you should pay for classes that you can physically go to.
Then again can’t you just use some free resources?
All of this is, of course, personal preference and it depends on the type of calligraphy that you are wanting to learn.
So if you are wanting to learn more very strict or traditional calligraphy scripts it may be easier to get a physical instructor.
While if you are learning brush lettering you may not have to pay for physical instruction.
All in all, one of my missions as a hand lettering artist is to provide free resources for beginners.
So don’t worry if you have a tight budget there are a lot of things out there that I am going to be talking about in the rest of the article.
How To Find Free Resources
Finding free resources can be as simple as looking up on Pinterest free brush lettering practice sheets.
But when looking for a free course not so much.
In general, you can consider this what I am writing right now a free resource.
HINT, HINT: I WILL SOOL BE PUTTING OUT A FREE BRUSH LETTERING COURSE.

So finding free resources can just be a matter of time or how much you put the effort into researching and learning about calligraphy.
If you don’t care or don’t research enough about calligraphy you won’t be able to find all of those free resources that you may be interested in.
Articles like this one I have found very helpful, well if you find the right ones.
There is a lot of free websites that you can, with thousands of articles and videos on how to exactly do modern calligraphy, like this one.
When finding these resources you just want to make sure that the creator of this free content has som authority and knows what they are doing.
You can check out there about page and see what expertise do they have in the industry.
Anyway since you may not want to do all of this research are a few sites that you can go check out that I recommend, including mine.
- Lettering daily
- Postman’s Knock
- Amy Latta Creations
Building Relations WIth Other Calligraphers
In general building relations with other people is important.
Here it is even more important because you have a “free resource” or mentor that you can simply ask a question and they will answer.
There is a lot of ways to do this.
- Simply just comment on one of there blog posts, with your question. There is a good chance they will respond.
- Build a social media group of lettering artists. Where you can just ask each other’s questions and support each other. For example Instagram or Facebook.
- Go onto different forums and ask calligraphy-based questions.
- Start a social media account where you can share your growth with other people.
- Follow other social media accounts where you can get inspiration and some lettering tips.
There are so many other things you can do to be able to build relationships with calligraphers on the internet.
The thing is just be active. Comment, share, ask questions, etc.
The benefit is you will build yourself a free resource to ask questions to your heart’s content, which are all about calligraphy.
Freebies
There are a lot of freebies that you can find on the internet but where exactly can you find them.
For one I recommend just looking up free practice sheets on Pinterest since there is a lot of different stuff on there.
But other than that I recommend going to the websites that I have linked above and they probably will have some sort of freebies.
From free guides to free practice sheets.
Or simply just type free calligraphy practice sheets on google would also be good.
Anyway, I am offering free practice sheets, witch, you could check out here.
I have mentioned above that I will soon be offering a free brush lettering course and when you sign up to get my practice sheets you sign up to my email list.
Whoever is on my email list would get access to my course first.
Anyway, I am sure that It can be quite easy to find or even make your own practice sheets.
I also know that a lto of people offer ebooks as a freebie and I am sure you can find some free lettering ebooks.
Even though this doesn’t apply online it might just be easier to find some good calligraphy books that you can use also through your online learning.
This can be easier to do since there are a lot of books that include practice sheets and if you ever want more you can just print them out.
Final Thoughts
So you have just learned the basics of learning calligraphy online.
I recommend just doing your own research and taking the time to find free resources.
This will help you in the long run if you have just a long list of resources that you can just go off of.
And of course, building relations with other calligraphers and even just beginners is important.
Your able to support each other through an online platform which makes it easy to just ask a question.
So that was all of my tips for learning calligraphy online.
