So you got your new awesome brush pens and ready to do some art and illustrations. You go on the internet and start to look for some more things that you can do with your new stationery.

You look through these youtube videos and notice that someone is dipping their brush pen in water. You wonder can you dip brush pens in water?

You can totally dip your brush pens in water. There is just something that you have to consider. First, you are going to want to make sure that your brush pens are water-based. Almost any type of brush pens are water-based but do not dip your brush pens in water if there are not water-based.

In the rest of this article, I am just going to talk about some simple ways to use water with your brush pens and to make cool lettering illustrations. Here is just a summary of what you are going to be learning today.

Galaxy Water Color Tutorials

Right now I am just going to be showing you some galaxy watercolor tutorials that you can use for your lettering.

For the first tutorial you are going to need:

  • Brush
  • Water
  • Brush Pens
  • Thick Bleed Proof Paper (Watercolor Paper would be best)
  • Salt (I will explain later)

For this, you are going to want to take out your brush pens and just start scribbling in a certain area of where you want this galaxy effect to be. This could also be cool for a Ti Di effect.

Once you have your colors down you are going to want to take out your water and your brush and start going over your scribbles with the water.

You will start to notice that a lot of these colors are going to blend. This will work with any of your water-based markers.

Now grab your salt or you could use a paper towel in this step. With your salt sprinkle a bit on top of your watercolor piece. You will notice that the watercolor will start spreading.

This will lead to a lighter color/circle.

Same thing with a towel you can just dab some of the watercolor off in some places.

After this, you will get a nice watercolor background. Now you can write over the background with acrylic paint or white pen.

Next Tutorial…

For this new tutorial you are going to need:

  • Water
  • Brush
  • Brush pen
  • Nice thick paper (bleed proof)
  • Pencil

Just write a phrase or word with your pencil.

Once you have done that you are going to grab your brush pens and just scribble into the guideline that you drew earlier. This should look something like this:

Then you are going to start by mixing the colors with your brush.

Then you will get a nice water effect with your brush pen lettering or any other lettering illustrations.

Learning How to Water Color With Brush Pens

This is actually a type of art that I have really dived into a lot. So since I don’t want to be giving you some wrong information about doing watercolor…

Cool Designs for Lettering

  • Brush Pen Blender
  • Plastic Bag
  • Water
  • Thick paper (bleed proof)
  • Brush Pens

Here we are going to start off with taking out our brush pens and just scribbling onto the plastic bag. You don’t have to use a plastic bag you could just use a regular old piece of plastic and just scribble on it. This will lead to ink to stay on the plastic.

Once you have done that you are going to want to grab your blender and dip it into the water and then into the ink (which is on the plastic bag).

Here now you can start illustrating or writing a word or phrase. You can also do this without the water, I just find that the water gives it a nice watercolor effect.

This will also lead to your letters to fade out.

You could do the exact same thing with a regular brush instead of using a brush blender.

Another idea…

Your going to need:

  • Plastic Bag
  • Water
  • Brush Pens
  • Brush Pen Blender or brush
  • Thick Paper (waterproof)
  • White Pen/ White Acrylic paint

For this, we are just going to again scribble on a piece of plastic.

We are going to dip our blender/ brush into the water and then start doing a base layer onto the paper. You are going to want to just put a few colors and just blend.

Once it is dry with your white pen you could just draw some little designs, doodles, and even lettering. This will give you a nice watercolor background for some of your awesome lettering/ watercolor design.

Conclusion

You have just learned that you can dip brush pens into water to blend, create a fade out technique, and to do watercolor.

I hope that all of these techniques will help you out. If you have any other ideas or questions feel free to comment!
